Unit Reflection Summary
Throughout this unit, I have learned about linear functions, exponential functions, transformations, arithmetic sequences, geometric sequences, recursive formula, explicit formula, increasing, decreasing, intercepts, end behaviors, range, and domain. I think that the topics that were the easiest to learn were exponential and linear functions. The hardest topics to learn were increasing and decreasing.
I feel that the standards that I have the best grasp on are arithmetic sequences, geometric sequences, recursive formula and explicit formula. I also have a clear understanding of the linear and exponential functions. I know how to interpret a linear or exponential function or create a function according to the situation described.
My advice to students who will learn about linear and exponential functions in the future would be to understand the basic equations of the linear and exponential functions first. They should make sure that they have a clear understanding of various components of the equation like how to calculate and interpret the slope and intercept of a line representing a linear function. They should also make themselves familiar the various forms of the equations which can be used to represent the linear function.
The worksheets we did in class and for homework were very helpful in mastering key standards. They helped to reinforce the material thought in the class. The project "Fun in Functions" was like the enrichment activity for the unit. It helped us to understand the concepts more clearly and in detail.
I feel that this unit is very important as it teaches various new concepts which would be used in future units. Hence they should be mastered for making a stronger base for algebra and calculus.
